Districts - will decide 'whether our· children will have the opportunity to acquire the kind o,f education they need. By voting Thursday on this Plebiscite you will give authority ONLY to plan and start a college, in existing premises at West Vancouver Secon-: dary School. What is a Community College? It is merely another very necessary advance providing our children with an education, to in fit them to survive and grow in our present society.: - ::. - COST TO THE TAXPAYER Years ago an elementary education was ac cepted as sufficient. Later, graduation from a secondary school was cceptable in our economy. A very few students went on to unive:rslty, and entered the professional field. The North and West Vancouver taxpayer with a home valued at $25,000 will pay about $7 per year for the college while it is housed in West Vancour Secondary School. Sechelt and Howe Sound with the same value home would pay $4 per year. For a $12,000 home in these areas, cost would be only $2. If college had to acquire a campus and buildings in 1973 to serve 2,000 students, cost would be $25 for the North and West Vancouv:er home and $7 for Sechelt and Howe Sound. - Today, this concept is not good enough. For I ' ' generations we have said that one of the commitments of democracy is that each individual is entitled to the opportunity for the fullest development of whatever talent and potential he or she possesses. TO THE PUPIL- A community college is a two-year academic transfer program equivalent to the first two yars of university. Students who graduate transfer into our universities.
