THE INFORMER PAGE 7 NOVEMBER 21, 1990 People Ethelyn McInnes-Rankin (Counselling) is the new president of Interaction, an association of nearly 90 members involved in international education at both the secondary and post-secondary level. Ethelyn is a founding member of the association and has been the college counsellor representative on the Interaction Board. Included in her list of projects is the 1991 Interaction Symposium, to be held at UBC in May. Clay and Textile Arts Advisory Board member and talented weaver Mary Bentley will have three of her scarfs in the Canada-wide competition to be exhibited at Craft House on Granville Island starting Jan. 3. The exhibition has previously been in New Zealand and features silk scarfs and shawls. Mary is married to Ted Bentley from the College’s Natural Sciences Department. From Oct. 25 - 28, three Cap College representatives joined more than 1,300 delegates at the Canadian Association on Gerontology’s 19th Annual Scientific & Educational Meeting in Victoria. Margot Rawsthorne (Long Term Care Aide) attended health care workshops including presentations on Alzheimer’s disease. Sandra Moe (Psychology and Women’s Studies) took in educational gerontology sessions and workshops on elder abuse. Carol McQuarrie went to aging & the arts presentations and toured an Abbeyfield Home in Sidney which provides home-like sheltered housing for seniors. The Legal Education & Action Fund (LEAF) Persons Day Breakfast held on Oct. 19 was a huge success, according to Valerie Cochrane (Office Administration), a member of the LEAF Board of Directors. More than 800 participants attended, including the following from Cap: Jolene Bordewick, Randi Duke, Karen Ewing, Shirley Freund, Noga Gayle, Jann Gibbs, Marlene Legates, Carol McQuarrie, and Betty Merrall. Nancy Farley, Chairman of the Capilano College Board of Directors, also attended. The Auxiliary to Lions Gate Hospital recently chose outstanding volunteer Jennifer Holmes as a winner of the 1990 Candy Striper Award. Jennifer is a first year student at the College and the daughter of Dorothy Holmes (Music). Members of the Capilano College Student Society Board of Directors were recently elected for the 1990-91 year. They are: Anne Bentley, Women’s Issues Coordinator; Lisa Harrison, Educational Issues Coordinator; Diane Larsson, Chairperson; Theresa Newman, Office Administration Course Union Representative; Joy Roberts, Art Course Union Representative; John Suschnik, Music Course Union Representative; Ross Vennesland, Social Issues Coordinator; Chris Weinhaupl, Treasurer. The new staff collective for the coming year includes: Cindy Filipenko, Services Coordinator; Kerry Hall, Resource Coordinator; and Lori Kosciuw, Administrative Coordinator.
