Sharon Thesen, (English)who has been winging her way about the country lately, read at the World Poetry Festival in Toronto earlier this month, then gave three readings in Montreal. On March 30 at 8 p.m. you can catch her and fellow poet Brian Brett at the Community Arts Council at 837 Davie Street. The evening is titled “Poetry, The Intense Eye”. Call 683-4358 for more information. Jolene Bordewick (A.C.T.) has been appointed Secretary to the Executive of the Learning Disabilities Association of B.C. She is also serving as chair of the Employment Committee on behalf of learning disabled adults in B.C., and as such, will attend the National Board of Directors Conference in Ottawa and will be in charge of developing employment strategies for the province of B.C. Wayne Eastcott (Studio Art) has been invited to participate in the 18th International Biennial of Graphic Art in Ljubljana, Yugoslavia. Wayne’s work and that of ten other Canadian artists has been selected to represent Canada in the Moderna Galerija from June to September. “This is the most important exhibition there is for printmakers,” says Wayne. Olga Kempo (Humanities) is taking a leave without pay to travel around the world and spread the good word about Cap. Until August this summer, Olga will be investigating European employment opportunities for students in the Humanities work/study abroad program. One of Kiff Holland’s paintings has just been accepted for the 123rd Annual Exhibition of the American Watercolour Society in New York April 25. Approximately one per cent of the total entry of 10,000 works of art are accepted. Kiff is the only Canadian representative this year. Political Studies instructor Paul Mier has just seen the fruits of his year’s leave published. Last year, Paul and co-author Alberto Melucci wrote Nomads of the Present — Social Movements and Individual Needs in Contemporary Society . Congratulations to Lynne Hamilton who has had a poem published in Poetic Images 1988. Look for “The Challenge” in this compilation of B.C. poets. Frank Gelin has been appointed to the British Columbia Advisory Board of the Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation. This is a non-profit foundation established to promote and administer its own Registered Educational Savings Plans, approximately 270 million dollars annually.
