New Orchestra Workshop provides a focus for the creation of an original west coast Canadian musical idiom. Members and affiliates from across Canada and abroad join with Vancouver musicians and composers to present innovative programming of original compositions and multi-media works. Achievements include: Canada Council Explorations Grant in 1978; Sponsorship of Workshops by Dr. Karl Berger of the Creative Music Studio, Woodstock, New York; organization of Three Creative Music Festivals in 1979, 1980 and 1981; Album Releases: "Up Til Now" by the New Orchestra Quintet, 1979, "Music for the Living" by E.S.B., 1981, "Blue Tales in Time" by Paul Cram and the N.O.W. Band ("Blue Tales in Time" was nominated for a Juno Award as Best Jazz Album of 1982), "Veji", 1984 and "Classic Veji", 1986. Recent Programming NOW Creative Music Series at the Centre Culture!
