Their book, Gabriola: Petroglyph Island is available at the UBC Museum of Anthropology. UBC is Offering a tour of the Petroglyphs September 23. PISO OW O0Ud SMAN Congratulations to Riley O’Connor and Shirley Newcombe who were married in August. Margaret McKenzie, secretary in the purchasing department, will be leaving the College as of September 1. We wish Margaret well. Dave Woolley, Registrar, has been elected president of the Western Association of Registrars of Univerities and Colleges of Canada. That long-winded name is commonly reduced to WARUCC. Rob Turner, Dean of Student and Instructional Services, has been elected chair of the B.C. Student Services Administrators, and if you want to say BCSSA, that’s probably okay with him. Jon Jessiman, Associate Dean Student & Instructional Services, has resigned after a two-year term as chair of the North Shore Enterprise Development Centre. He is not slacking from his usual pace however. Jon was elected chair of the International Education Training Group (a group of B.C. Intn’l Ed. administrators). They will soon be changing their name to the B.C. Centre for International Education. While visiting his old stomping grounds at the University of Shanghai this summer, Jon was awarded an honorary degree. He is now a “Doctor of Science of International Jurisprudence”. After receiving this hefty title, Jon and his wife, Genevieve, spent their summer holidays in a thatched bungalow on a remote island in Indonesia. John Potts, Associate Dean Career Vocational, will be interim chair of the North Shore Enterprise Development Centre’s advisory board. He has also been re-elected to the Canadian programs advisory board of the Association of Canadian Colleges ACCC. The board is responsible for generating the main issues for ACCC and national programs. John will serve a two-year term. Brian White and his wife, Kara, presented a three-day workshop on English for the Tourism Industry for faculty from the Rajaman Gala Technical Institute in Bangkok this summer. If funding applications are successful, Brian expects facuity from the Institute to attend Cap in the future. More news about Brian’s adventurous summer in the next /nformer. Doug Loblaw (Business Management) is returning from his year’s leave of absence — Doug worked at Equity Preservation Corporation — to teach in BSMG and to assist as the part-time advertising manager at the N., Shore Enterprise Development Centre. Bev Greene, Director of Public Relations, has been appointed Vice-President of the Public Relations and Information Officers group for B.C. Colleges and Institutes (InformEd). Alan Smith, Director of Planning, is becoming popular on the lecture circuit. Alan spoke at a Workshop for Adult Educators recently about economic, cultural, and demographic trends and developments over the next ten years on the North Shore. He has been invited to give a similar workshop to North Shore business people in October. Marjorie Croft is administrative assistant in Student and Instructional Services. She joins Linda Curry, secretary to Jon Jessiman, and Koraley Calvert, secretary to Rob Tumer.
