Healthstyles Measles Immunization Thursday, Nov. 27 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Room M101 A measles outbreak is expected on the North Shore early in 1991. Measles is not just a “childhood disease.” It is a serious infectious disease which can cause death or may result in permanent damage such as brain damage. Who can catch measles? Anyone who is not protected can catch measles if they come in contact with an infected person. Who should be immunized? Anyone aged 12 months to 33 years who has never been immunized for measles. Why the concern now? Montreal and Quebec City are just two of the cities across North America which have had measles outbreaks recently. In 1989 Quebec had 10,000 cases of which five people died and five more were left with permanent brain damage. In B.C., the peaks in measles incidence have been in 1980 and 1986. With the introduction of measles vaccine, peak years have decreased to every four to five years. It is reasonable to expect a significant number of measles cases in British Columbia in 1991. There will be a measles immunization clinic held at the College on Tuesday, Nov. 27 from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. in M101 (across the hall from Health Services). For more information, call Health Services at 2964 or drop in to M103. ice y (| December 5 Are you tired of setting goals and quitting at the first sign of resistance?
