VISITING ARTIST James Reid, who will be playing in H113 Friday evening, has a repertoire which Spans the full range of guitar literature from the Baroque to the present and he also performs Renaissance music on a modern Renaissance lute. An accomplished chamber musician as well as soloist, Reid possesses an extensive knowledge of the repertoire for two guitars and for guitar and flute. It might seem incongruous for the Music department to have a Guitar recital in support of their Grand Piano Fund drive but there is irrefutable logic in the decision. A piano recital requires a concert quality piano, and the college does not have one. Students transferring to UBC or other institutions from Cap have to relearn their skills on bigger pianos, and the college has had to forego piano recitals for lack of a suitable instrument. Hence the Grand Piano Fund, and hence a concert to be held Friday, April 18 at 8 pm in room H113 featuring James Reid, guitarist and lutenist. Reid, who is director of Music department holds concert, raises piano fund the guitar program at the University of Idaho and a visiting instructor of guitar at Washington State University, will be playing selections from the renaissance, baroque and classical periods and the 20th century. Reid studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and was the first student ever to receive the Master of Music degree in guitar performance at the Hartt School of Music. He has studied with such masters as Jesus Benites, George Sakellariou, and Richard Provost, and has performed dozens of recitals in the U.S. and Canada, and for broadcasts on public TV ies i and radio stations. Admission to his performance is by donation to the Grand Piano Fund, with income tax receipts being provided for all donations over $5. The Music department is also looking for larger donations--"Patrons" ($200), "Sponsors" ($100) and "Donors" ($50) will have their names printed in future concert programs. For information on the fund or the concert call the Music department at local 454.
