January 29/99 PRISM lights up the North Vancouver campus anuary 1, 1999 marked the inauguration of PRISM, an international management institute at Capilano College. The new institute will specialize in graduate training for younger Canadians developing international careers in emerging markets throughout the world. PRISM’s combination of target market, inter-disciplinarity, applied learning and a solely international focus, makes it unique in the Canadian marketplace. A result of the $1-million gift from Bob McRae, PRISM will initially be home to two core programs: the award-winning Asia Pacific Management Cooperative Program and the Latin America Management Program. It will also assess new program possibilities by keeping abreast of international opportunities. Maintaining a leadership position in the global education market requires the influence and expertise of outstanding individuals. Following a distinguished career in the Foreign Service, John Bell will lead the PRISM team. John’s accomplishments in world affairs span the globe from Stockholm to Sydney, Accra to Abidjan, Paris to New York. His experience as high commissioner to Malaysia, and Canadian ambassador to the Ivory John Bell Coast and Brazil, provides John with volumes of knowledge which can be applied to the PRISM spectrum. Globally recognized as a leader in international development and commerce, John also holds the distinction of doctor of laws honoris causa from the University of British Columbia. In Malaysia, he is better known as Datuk Bell. This is an honour of distinction bestowed upon only a few individuals for their outstanding service contribution to that country. With the firmly-established success of the APMCP, John and his team of instructors and advisors anticipate that PRISM will take international management education to a higher and much welcomed level.
