Joe Speaks out Before leaving for Toronto with my women's volleyball team on Tuesday, March 22, | had only a vague idea as to what the Canadian College Championships were al] about. | quickly became aware, however, that the Canadian College Athletic Association National Championships is truly one of the best organized, funded, and administered amateur games in Canada. The opening and closing ceremonies were first class and all of the events were thoroughly covered by the media through the College Press, the Toronto Press, radio and television. All of this, of course, to promote college athletics and some of the finest young athletes that Canada has developed. As a college coach | was proud to be a part of these games and only wished that more people from Capilano College could have had the opportunity to experience them with me. It is for this reason that | decided to prepare a short report on the National College Championships in the hope that my enthusiasm for college athletics and my optimism for the future of our young people may filter through tomy colleagues. On arrival we were met at the Toronto International Airport by a welcoming committee as well as various media agents from local newspapers and Cable television. You have probably heard the information before—there is ample remuneration to billeters, people on good bus lines are preferred, and we always have a number of repeating families because they find the experience such a pleasant one. If you are interested in putting up a student between May 22 and July 2, contact Joan Gillis through the ESL department, local 414.
