t& ila Beiege Informer FACULTY DEVELOPMENT Bill Schermbrucker, Committee Chair Fall Grant Awards In the fall round of grant adjudications by the Faculty Development Committee, 11 applications were successful, and four were ruled ineligible. Because of the large number of applications, and the Committee’s limited budget, projects were funded at 85 per cent of the level at which they were approved, and the ceiling was reduced to $850 from $1,000. The Following projects were funded: Rick Brewster (Math): $850 to present a paper at the British Combinatorial Conference in Stirling, Scotland. Wayne Eastcott (Studio Art): $426 to confer with colleagues in the printmaking department of the University of Alberta, including a guest lecturer from Mushashino University, Tokyo, on the latest developments in photogravure, as well as studio design and student flow. Melanie Fahlman-Reid (English): $850 to co-present a paper at TESOL ’95 (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Long Beach, CA. Lucas Foss (Disability Support Services): $683 to attend the "Partners in Education" conference of the Nat. Ed. Assoc. of Disabled Students in Montréal. _ Doug Loblaw (BADM) $765 to attend the annual conference of the Canadian Council for Small Business and Entrepreneurship in Winnipeg. Rob McKenzie (Jazz Studies): $765 to attend the Int’l. Assoc. of Jazz Educators’ annual International Conference at Boston, MA. Jessie Pendygrasse (BADM & Tourism Megnt.): $347 to attend a six-day conference on Pacific Asia Travel, B.C.Tourism, & National Tourism, in Vancouver. Lesley Richmond (Textile Arts): $370 to attend "Out of School," a forum on learning and the textile arts, at the Museum for Textiles in Toronto. Lois Rennie (ECE): $850 to co-present a session on ‘Workplace, ' "Multicultural Perspectives in Children’s Literature" at the Nat. Assoc. for Educ. of Young Children in Atlanta, GA. Linn Teetzel (BADM): $850 to travel to Vancouver Island and Lower Mainland communities, to study and report on the need for and feasibility of establishing a Centre for Local Government Studies at Capilano College. Veronica Timmons (OR/Tourism): $413 to attend the PATA Human Resources Conference, "The New "in Vancouver. AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE Both NISOD and the ACCC have programs for recognition of excellence. Award winners receive special recognition at the respective AGMs of the two organizations. ACCC invites nominations in six categories (Teaching, Program, Internationalization, Leadership, Student Leadership and _ Staff Excellence). Deadline: December 2, 1994. NISOD Excellence awards are at the discretion of each college, and all those officially nominated by the College will be featured in the awards booklet and receive a medallion. Deadline Feb.1, 1995.
