Come one, come all! The first fall meeting of the Public Relations and Promotions Advisory Committee has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 24 at 4:00 pm in room A112. The PRPAC, formerly known as the Advertising Committee, is an informal ‘think tank’, open to anyone interested in the College’s public relations and promotions. Doug Loblaw from Business Management is this year’s Chair—if you need a little more persuasion you can call him and he’ll tell you all about it. Electronic Encyclopedia on campus The annual renovations in the Library are just about finished, and there are a few changes this year. Students will have access this year to Infoglobe, a Canadian electronic database, and they will also be able to use Grolier’s Electronic Encylopedia, a 20 volume reference work on compact disc. CALP funds were used for the purchase of two terminals, modems and a printer for INFOGLOBE, on which users can gain access to the Globe and Mail, Canadian Periodicals Index, Canadian Index of Computer Literature, and Computing Canada. It was also CALP funds that purchased the Grolier’s Electronic Encylopedia, and if you'd like to learn to use it, librarian Suzanne Clouthier will be holding a demonstration on it September 16. Contact her for details. Financial Aid video available There has been a long overdue improvement in the financial aid for B.C. students, and the B.C. government has prepared a video on the new assistance programs. Anyone who is interested should contact our Financial Aid office at 2966 which has a copy of the video. His painting, “Bahama Mama Il” is featured on the cover of the exhibition program, and netted him $500 as well as the honour and glory. If you would like to see some of Holland’s extraordinary watercolours, he is having a show at the Harrison Galleries, 2932 Granville, from September 16 to 23. The gallery’s hours are 10 am to 4 pm Monday to Saturday. Kellington returns Media Resources instructor Peter Kellington is back from his year’s leave of absence, and is, as of August 1, coordinator of the Dynamics Lab (a curious euphemism for TV studio). “The lab has been fortunate in that it has received much needed replacement equipment and is now better able to meet the production and instruction expectations of the college and the educational community,” commented Kellington. If you are interested in using the lab or learning about its potential uses, Kellington is interested in meeting with you. Call him at 2946. Late nights for Bookstore The Bookstore will be open until 7:30 pm Monday through Thursday until October 2 to accommodate the usual pulsating crowds (or should we’say to accommodate the “volumes”?). From October 5 on, their only late night will be Thursdays, when they'll continue to be open to 7:30. If you have questions, call them at 2972.
