Meanwhile, here are the highlights: >» COOPERATIVE LEARNING LEVEL I FOUR-DAY INTENSIVE WORKSHOP In response to some enthusiastic requests in the survey to last year’s brief session, we are now offering a full four-day session from May 15-18. The first half day is a general, introductory session for all interested faculty, and the remaining three and a half days are for those who decide to make Coop Learning their main activity of Faculty Development Days this year, leading to Level I certification. The Committee has hired a very experienced person, Bob Aitken, Head of Program Development and Staff Training at VCC to give the workshop. >» INSTRUCTIONAL SKILLS WORKSHOP In the week prior to Faculty Development Days, Paul Carter of the Math Department and_ Jessie Pendygrasse of BADM/Outdoor Rec are teaming up to offer a co-facilitated ISW. (The purpose of ISWs is to enhance instructional skills by obtaining constructive feedback from a small group of Faculty from all subject areas.) Enrolment will be on a first- come first-served basis starting as soon as you receive this issue of The Informer, and is quite limited. Dates: Monday May 8th 1-3, Tuesday May 9th-Thursday May 11th 9-4:30. (We may be able to offer another ISW in August, so if you’re interested in that, please let me know.) >» INCLUSIVENESS AND DIVERSITY A half-day workshop by Marg Penne of Fraser Valley, on planning and adapting your instructional materials and approach with an awareness of the issues of ethnic, gender and other diversities, with an eye to inclusiveness. Thursday May 18, 1-4 p.m. >» EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY Four specific offerings are being planned: @ Internet. As a follow-up to last year’s very popular session (but also suitable for newcomers) there will be a half-day Introductory Session (no enrolment limit) by Annette Lorek and Maureen Witney covering various on-line research resources, including the Internet. There will then be an Advanced Session in a computer lab, covering such matters as Graphical Internet Browsers and File Retrieval Software (enrolment limited by size of lab). — ©@ Multimedia Workshop A presentation by Liz Hammond Kaaremaa of Malaspina College, on the educational applications of multimedia technology. ©@ Current Developments & Ideas in Educational Technology A presentation by Jim Bizzocchi on the state of the art. © Cap Ed Tech Experience A half day presentation by various Capilano faculty, including Anne Watson, the Math Department, Crawford Kilian, Pat Hodgson and Don Kirkby on Audioconferencing, Videotapes, Computer Communications and SARAW. > GRANT APPLICATIONS A half-day presentation by Stephanie Forsyth, Dean, Career/Vocational Division. Tue May 16th, 1-4 p.m. >» FAST FORWARD 95: EDUCATIONAL MEDIA SHOWCASE (admission paid for Cap) By deliberate planning, during Faculty Development Days on May 17th and 18th, Capilano is hosting this large presentation in the Sportsplex. All kinds of makers and distributors of videos, laserdiscs, CD- ROM programs etc. will be there--NFB, CBC, Telefilm International--you name it. This is a province-wide showcase of materials, and costs $40- 50 per day to attend, but the Committee has purchased a bulk admission so that any Capilano College Faculty or Staff member may attend. I will be sending you a little leaflet, and you can also browse the catalogues of the displayers at Audio Visual Services in the Library (Sharon Feyer).
