Bill McPhee photo. Scholarship honours Lucas Former friends and colleagues of North Vancouver District's first Superintendent, W.E. (Bill) Lucas, have formed the W.E. Lucas Memorial Scholarship in his memory. Lucas, who died in 1985, started as Inspector of Schools for North and West Van. in 1954, and was a founding member of the Capilano College Council (now the Capilano College Board). During his career Lucas saw the expansion of the district from 13 schools and 7,932 students to 44 schools and 21, 773 students when he retired in 1974. The scholarship is for North Van. high school students who have made significant contributions to their school and/or community and who have shown evidence of initiative and achievement. Contributions to the fund can be made at any branch of the North Shore Credit Union or may be sent to the scholarship fund c/o North Van. School District Office, 721 Chesterfield Ave., North Van.
