“ss ~~ Chinese exchange student to give talk The Extension department is inviting all interested persons to spend an evening with exchange student Helen Zheng from the People's Republic of China on Thursday October 7 from 7:30 to 9:30 in L210. Helen was a student at Capilano College last year (she stayed with Frances Brownell )and | has just started a degree program at SFU. In her talk she will introduce the Mandarin language and discuss such topics as how the Chinese deal with their changing society, how the young people feel, and what the new 'free markets’ will mean to them. Helen will also talk about the cheapest ways to travel in China and some of the places to visit. This is a free lecture—everyone is welcome. Armchair traveller alert Extension programs is once again running the World Travel Programs with Bert Schendel, photographer, on Tuesday nights starting September 30. Three new programs on the South Pacific, Brazil and the Amazon are included in the series, plus programs on South America, the Incas, Easter Island, Papua New Guinea, India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Borneo, and the Galapagos Islands. The shows use multiple slide projectors and a fully produced sound track. Series fee is $40— for information contact Extension, 2901. Tibet lecture at >. % The Tibetan Refugee Aid Society is sponsoring a slide presentation and talk by Dr. Michael Futrell of UBC at the Vancouver Museum and Planetarium on November 6. Professor Futrell has recently returned from Tibet and his talk should be of interest to travellers, mountaineers, and those interested in the people and Buddhist culture of Tibet. Admission is $5 (half price for seniors and students) and the event starts at 7:30 pm. There will be refreshments available and a handicraft display.
