CITATION FOR THE PRESENTATION OF
THE GOVERNOR GENERAL'S SILVER MEDAL
CAPILANO COLLEGE - 1974

I particularly appreciate the honour given to me this evening

to you the candidate who is to receive the Governor General's Silver

Medal for the 1974 Graduating Class.

This medal is awarded each year by his excellency the Governor General

of Canada to the graduating student who has achieved the best scholastic
record in attaining his or her diploma at Capilano College.
Each year the recipient of this medal brings lustre to the award by
uniqueness of his or her particular and distinctive characteristics.
This year is no exception.

Let me share with you some of the background of this year's Governor General's
Silver Medal winner. This student was born nineteen years ago on March
the 29th, 1955, in Vancouver.
She has lived all her life in West Vancouver and attended Westcot Elementary
School and Sentinel Secondary School in West Vancouver. After graduating

with an outstanding academic record from her secondary school in 1972, tlis
young lady registered at Capilano College in the 1972 Fall term.

Her

grade point average at the end of the 1972 Fall term was 3.88 out of a

perfect score of 4.00.

As a result she was placed on the Dean's List for

this term. In 1973 she returned for the Spring Term again undertaking
a full Science load as well as one Art course on an audit basis in
General Drawing, which is one of her many interests. During the
term she achieved a perfect Grade Point average of 4.00.

During the 1973 SlUDlller Break, this young lady was employed in the

Operating Theatre of St. Paul's Hospital and returned for a full Academic

Science load in the 1973-74 Winter� Academic Session. During these two
semesters your recipient achieved a straight A record for all ten courses
attempted for credit, and took Biology 205, an Ecology course as an
overload on an audit basis.

This young lady, when she isn't studying, enjoys playing the guitar, the
piano and the flute. In addition to this, she draws, reads extensively,
plays chess, sails, and enjoys fishing in Howe Sound. She is currently
employed as a Naturalist with the Provincial Government at Miracle Beach
on Vancouver Island.
