Faculty development committee news he Faculty Development Committee met on Tuesday, October 27 and evaluated 16 grant applications, most of which requested the highest amount available ($1,000). To accommodate all those who qualified for funding, and to retain enough funds for the spring adjudication and the May PD days, the Committee scaled back all grant amounts by 10%. This means that, in this adjudication, the highest amount granted was $900, and other amounts were pro-rated accordingly. Grants were awarded to the following instructors: Rosslyn Anne, Jen Moses and Lois Rennie ( Early Childhood Care and Education): $450 each to attend and lead a workshop at the 1998 National Association for the Education of Young Children conference in Toronto, Nov. 18- 21, 1998. Robert Campbell (History): for attending and presenting a paper at the Association of Canadian Studies in Australia and New Zealand, in Sydney, Australia, July 9-11, 1998. Pierre Coupey (English): $630 towards the expenses of exhibiting and giving a lecture on his paintings, work on paper and poem/prints at the Canadian Embassy Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, from August 18 to Sept. 12, 1998. Mary Giovannetti (Applied Business Technology): to attend the TESOL °99 (Teachers of English as a Second or Other Language) conference in New York, March 9-13, 1999. On November 1, pledge cards were mailed to all College employees. Names of people making donations before November 19 will be entered into a draw for a prize. There will be weekly 50/50 draws November 5 to 26, plus pennies are being collected in jars located around the campus. On November 12, the cafeteria is holding a Training, sponsored by the Learning Resources Network, Toronto, Dec. 3-5, 1998. Please note that, due to the limited availability of funds, applications by the same individual can be considered only once every two years (i.e., if your last award was spring 1997, you may apply again in spring 1999). The Committee will also be distributing a questionnaire for faculty feedback on the idea of holding “brown bag sessions,” at which Capilano College faculty could make half-hour lunch-time presentations on their PD activities. The same questionnaire will also solicit your opinions on workshops for the May 1999 PD Days. Please send in your replies promptly — we would like to make your ideas a reality!
