Surj Rattan NOW R E P O R T The opening of the library also marked the 25th anniversary of Capilano College. Skills, T r a i n i n g and Labor Minister Dan Miller, who is the minister responsible for colleges and universities, noted that Capilano College is one of the oldest community colleges in B.C. ' T h e new library ensures that Cap students will continue to enjoy outstanding educational opportunities. "The kinds of courses and activities that this college is conducting impresses me very, very much. "It's the 25th anniversary this year of Capilano College and if this is an example of the first 25 years, I'm certain that 25 years from today the achievements of the college will indeed be remarkable," said Miller. Capilano College president Dr. Doug jardine said the new library could not have been built without the fundraising efforts of the X The third floor of the new library currently contains classrooms, but when enrolment increases, the third floor can provide for an additional 18,000 square feet for library use, serving a capacity of 7,000 full-time equivalent students. The college currently has 4,200 full-time equivalent students. Among the high-tech features of the new library are a fully integrated on-line library system, due to be in place in 1994. Users of the system will have access to current catalogue, circulation and acquistion information via 22 public computer terminals. The integrated system will also give students access to remote data bases and library catalogues at other colleges and universities. Another electronic resource, a 12-station computer lab, will offer hardware such as a color scanner and a color laser printer, equipment not available to most students.
