Evening College Brings Mel One of the benefits of our evening program is that people like Mel Felker join the faculty. A long-time counsellor at Cariboo College (he worked there from 1968 - 1987) Mel brings extensive knowledge of campus life to Cap. Cariboo College is similar to Cap in the range of programs it offers, says Mel, although the overall of age of the students is younger, and the campus larger. Mel has found it difficult to meet people outside of M Building, so make yourself known to him. A recent experience working with refugees and immigrants at the King Edward Campus at VCC gave him a fresh perspective on what it means for students facing new challenges and brushed up his counselling skills. It “was fascinating,” he said. Mel’s area of expertise is working with students suffering from anxiety and other stress-related problems, along with helping with career and educational planning. A graduate of UBC, Mel lived in Vancouver for six years, and spent his teenage life in Coquitlam, so he doesn’t find it too strange to be living on the Lower Mainland again. Also, one of the first people he met at Cap was his former Biology teacher, Dan Doyle (Advising). Mel works from from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, and 9 to 5 Fridays. His local is 2538.
