This year’s conference, VISION ’91, will be held in Winnipeg from May 27 to 29. The presentation by Lynne Hamilton (ARC), Bob Walker (Computer Services) and Carol McQuarrie (Music) will focus on Capilano College’s unique staff development program. Conference delegates will also have the opportunity to take in a presentation on issues for student governments by Carol’s daughter, Fiona McQuarrie, who is a Ph.D. student in Business at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Laraine Hamilton (Social Sciences) is running in the Labatt’s 24-hour Relay on June 22-23 to raise money for the B.C. Lions Society for Crippled Children. If you would like to make a pledge to this worthwhile cause, contact Laraine at 2473. The March 1991 issue of Canadian Chemical News features an article by Penny Le Couteur (Chemistry). In her piece, “Organic Chemistry by Distance Learning,” Penny writes about the challenge of creating a distance education course involving an “intensely” three-dimensional, hands-on science and the successful use of a multimedia approach. Graham Fane (Business Management) has taken team decision-making to B.C. Hydro as a facilitator of a two-day work- shop on managing in the 1990’s. The simulation-based workshop was designed for Hydro employees at the management level. Best Wishes to Dianne Soderman (Natural Sciences) on the arrival of her baby boy, born April 30. Assuming Dianne’s responsibilities in Natural Sciences is Kathy Chute, formerly of ‘Adult Basic Education/Career Choices. Director of Planning Alan Smith has announced that the new director of Public Relations is Marleen Morris. Marleen has eight years of public relations experience with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, originally as the communications officer for the Vancouver branch, and then as the head of communications for the entire B.C./Yukon region. Marleen’s first day at Cap will be June 17. Congratulations to Patricia Groves on the recent announcement of her new assignment as Vice-Principal - King Edward Campus (Instruction) at Vancouver Community College. Patricia was involved with Capilano College for many years before moving on to VCC in 1987 to assume her role as Dean of Instruction and Student Services at KEC. Before you throw out the back of that ruled pad of paper or steno pad, put it in a inter-office mail envelope to PR and it will be put to good use (a second time). Cap Students are Best in Province Business instructor/coach Graham Fane (left) stands with his award winning team. Greg Zowty, Nicole Arndt, Marria Malek, and Thomas Relling competed successfully against 13 other B.C. colleges at the B.C. Business Student Competition earlier this spring, winning the best overall team performance, best human resource manager, and best accountant awards. The students’ task consisted of running a simulated computer company through decision periods representing a six-year span.
