The music, the dance, the lighting all are equal partners in this improvisation. the improvisers Peter Bingham - Dancer Peter Bingham is one of the world's leading innovators in the field of contact improvisation. His career in dance was kickstarted in the seventies after working with contact improv pioneers Nancy Stark Smith and Steve Paxton. Along with Andrew Harwood and Helen Clarke, Peter created the contact based ensemble, Fulcrum. In 1982, Peter was one of the artists who started the Vancouver creative collective EDAM. Since 1989, he has been EDAM's Artistic Director. Peter has created over 30 full length choreographic works, as well as taking part in hundreds of improvisational performances in Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and Asia. Chris Aiken - Dancer Chris Aiken is a leading international teacher and performer of dance improvisation and contact improvisation. His work is informed by questions and explorations surrounding themes of perception, imagination, dance, architecture, ecology, somatics, and aesthetic theory. He has received numerous awards for his work, including a Guggenheim Fellowship. He is tenured professor and codirector of the dance program at Ursinus College in Pennsylvania. Coat Cooke - Musician NOW Orchestra Artistic Director Coat Cooke is one of Canada's most lyrical and inventive saxophonists and composers. His work has included a wide selection of projects with dance, theatre, multi-media and film over the last thirty years. Coat has toured Canada, the USA and Europe performing in major festivals in Berlin, Lisbon and Chicago, and his collaborations include work with George Lewis, Wadada Leo Smith, Roscoe Mitchell, Butch Morris, Marilyn Crispell, Oliver Lake and most recently with Eyvind Kang. His most recent recording, Animal Tales, is available on NOW Orchestra Records (www.noworchestra.com). His playing has been featured on a number of critically acclaimed recordings, the most recent being Blue Rims -the Rich Halley Trio with Bobby Bradford. James Proudfoot - Lighting Design Recently returned from touring shows to Shanghai and Beijing, James Proudfoot is originally from Edinburgh, Scotland. For twelve years he was resident Technical Director of the Firehall Arts Centre, Vancouver. James has lit shows for many dance companies including Co. Erasga., Anatomica, Lola Dance, Holy Body Tattoo, battery opera, Kinesis Dance, Tara Cheyenne Performance, Joe Ink, Mascall Dance, Frozen Eye, Wen Wei Dance as well as EDAM.
