Games Shirts Fridays Proclaimed at Capilano College F ridays at Capilano College could take on a whole new look with the proclamation of Games Shirts Fridays in support of the North Vancouver 1996 B.C. Winter Games. Capilano College is one of the four key community partners in the Games and the host site for many Games activities. The proceeds from the sale of the Games commemorative apparel will benefit the North Vancouver Winter Games Legacy Fund. This fund will remain in the community to support sport, recreation and youth programs. “We are trying to encourage people to purchase their Games attire before the Games begin, because that is when the fund will benefit most,” says Marleen Morris, director of Public Relations at Capilano College and director of Promotions for the Games. “Our contract with the supplier is such that once the Games begin, a greater percentage of the proceeds will be retained by the supplier itself.” A wide selection of merchandise is available from t-shirts, sweatshirts and shorts, to golf shirts, denim shirts and baseball caps. Commemorative apparel will be sold on campus from Monday to Thursday at the south Student Union office next to the Cap Corner Store. Proceeds will go towards the recycling program. Other retail outlets include the Bay at Park Royal, North Vancouver RecCentres, North or West Vancouver real estate offices and the B.C. Winter Games Office at #207-123 East 15th Street, North Vancouver. Games volunteers will receive a 10 per cent discount on all purchases. The Games will take place February 22 to 25, 1996. More than 2,800 athletes, coaches and managers from around the province will compete in 30 sporting events, making these the largest Winter Games ever. Volunteers Still Needed The skills and energy of roughly 3,500 volunteers are key to ensuring the success of the North Vancouver Winter Games.
