continued The opening ceremonies were truly an extravaganza affair as all of the participating colleges and their athletes were represented under their respective provincial flags. The guest speakers included representatives from the CCAA, the government of Ontario, the government of Canada and many others involved in the sponsorship and organization of the championships. A banquet followed after which all of the athletes returned to their quarters in preparation for three days of competition ahead of them. The volleyball competition began early Thursday morning and continued until] Saturday evening when the fold medal matches were played. The competition throughout the weekend was of top calibre in both men's and women's play. Almost all of the teams participating had either Provincial select athletes or Canadian National junior members of their roster. . The coaching was excellent, the officiating was excellent and the athletes were superb. When the last game was over, the final award was presented and the last of the triumphant calls were being heard, | could see how important this national event had been to everyone involved. Somehow you could see it in the bright eyes and broad grins of all the athletes. The competitiveness demonstrated earlier by these athletes seemed to change into a true and bonding comradeship. The athletes from Quebec were joking and laughing with those of British Columbia. People talked, people listened and people came to sunderstand. The exchange of ideas, the communication of common goals, ideals, needs and concerns sparked amongst these young people a feeling of friendship, love and unity. It was a personal treat for me to see people from all over Canada enjoying each other's friendship. | only hope that | am fortunate enough to experience another national championship once again next year. - Joseph lacobellis Paper available from SNS The Ministry of Education has just released a discussion paper on ''Career Education for Mentally Handicapped Adults'! the advisory committee for which included our own Jolene Bordewick (ACT Coordinator) as well as representatives of three other colleges, two institutes and several community and government agencies.
