EDAM is a contemporary dance company dedicated to the investigation of movement as an expressive art form. The company supports many possibilities for creative expression through the creation and production of choreography and the practice and presentation of the art of improvisation. The teaching arm of EDAM is committed to the development of Contact Improvisation, improvisation and contemporary dance. Each season, the company hosts a number of special workshops and intensives. Performance taught by Marc Boivin, Peter Bingham and Andrew Harwood. A series of classes in which workshop participants learn to prepare themselves for a performance. Topics covered will include acquiring an awareness of space and time, learning about internal and external architecture, integrating your dancer· s body and recognizing and working with your energy as a performer. Instructors wil offer suggestions and feedback based on their own experiences as performers. PARTICIPANTS MUST BE PREPARED TO PRESENT A 3 MINUTE SOLO, EITHER IMPROVISED OR CHOREOGRAPHED. He has an extensive career as a soloist, performing in both irnprovi sed and choreographed work in Canada, the United States and Europe. In addition to creating his own work, Andrew has danced with the Marie Chouinard Dance Company and La Fondation Jean-Pierre Perreault. He has recently worked with Paul-Andre Fortier and Tedd Robinson. Peter Bingham is an accomplished performer and teacher of Contact Improvisation. For the past twenty years he has performed and taught in numerous festivals and workshops across Canada and in the United States. He is the Artistic Di rector of EDAM, a Vancouver based company that performs and produces choreographed shows and improvisations. Marc Boivin is a talented performer who works Pxtensively with independent choreographers J n-Pierre Perrault, Louise Bedard and Tedd Robinson. He has danced as a member of O Vertigo and Groupe de la Place Royale. His training is extensive and includes modern ballet and gymnastics. Since 1987 he has taught modern technique at LADMII. Coat Cooke is an instrumentalist and a composer. He is the founder of Canada's leading large improvising ensemble, the NOWOrchestra. He is currently the Co-Artistic Director of this group, which has had three CD releases. Coat has worked with dance for over ten years, both comp o s i n g for set choreography and improvising in live performances. Ron Samworth is a high profile presence of the Vancouver improvised/ contemporary music scene. His multi-disciplinary work includes composition, performance, sound design for theatre, spoken work. film and a longtime collaboration with EDAM.
