The 12-member group performed in Toronto May 19 as part of the three-day annual festival, which brings together groups from high schools, colleges, and universities across Canada. Night Cap performed in the open class for colleges and universities. The invitation to perform in New Orleans as one of only two groups representing Canada is especially exciting, said choir director Rejean Marois. “We will be representing the college and university level programs,” he said. Marois added that a noted American educator, Ed Lojesky, is interested in recording the group in L.A. Canadian Scholarship winner Mark Heilig received his certificate from Academic Dean Frank Gelin at last week's grad ceremony. Night Cap members show how to swing at the grad ceremony. Valedictorian Learned her Lessons Well This year’s valedictorian proves that Cap’s Marketing Management Program knows what it’s doing. A few days after finishing her last exams, Alanna Chaffin began a full time job. “I finished my exams on April 27 and started work May 1,” says the forward- looking grad, who chose her new job with McKim Advertising from a number of offers. Alanna now works long, but invigorating days helping organize special events for the firm that set up the Calgary Olympics opening show. This week she flew to Victoria to work on the opening of the Empress Hotel. The former model—she spent nine years in the forefront of the advertising world—won the President’s Award for academic excellence and served as social secretary, then president of the students’ marketing club. The club raised money for a new student bursary and made a donation to the Lions Gate Hospital during her tenure. An assiduous researcher, Alanna chose Cap for its currency with the working world. “Cap provided everything I expected and more,” said Alanna. “The instructors are in tune with the business world and the program is right up-to-date. And of course, there’s the beautiful setting.” The native Calgarian had visited Vancouver many times during her nine-year modelling career and fell in love with the city. “I knew I would live here one day.”
