Mrs. and Mr. Fisher accept the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal on behalf of their daughter, Caroline Fisher, from Outdoor Recreation instructor Brian White (far left). Burnaby Resident Wins Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal Se Burnaby resident and graduating student Caroline Fisher wasn’t present at Capilano College’s spring graduation ceremony on May 23. She was guiding a tour group from the White Rock-Surrey Archaeological Society through the parks of Utah. However, her parents were there to accept on Caroline’s behalf the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal. Awarded by the Office of the Governor General, His Excellency, the Right Honourable Romeo LeBlanc, the medal is given annually at Capilano College to the student who achieved the highest academic standing in a diploma-level, post-secondary program of two year’s duration or more. This is the most prestigious honor given at the College for academic achievement. “Caroline has been an outstanding student and is a wonderful choice for the Governor General’s medal,” says Catherine Boniface, convenor of the Outdoor Recreation Management program. Caroline had been enrolled in the two-year program since returning from a year-long trip throughout Eastern and Southern Africa. Raised in the Lower Mainland, Caroline graduated from South Burnaby Secondary School, receiving an entrance scholarship at Simon Fraser University. She spent her summers at the EDUCO Adventure School, an outdoor education organization in 100 Mile House, B.C., that is similar to Outward Bound. She delayed her entry into SFU for one year and attended Carleton University, working in Parliament as a senate page. Following a semester at SFU and her travels, Caroline had a clear idea of her career path. She enrolled in the Outdoor Recreation Management Program at Capilano College and today, she is employed as an assistant guide with Elder Adventure Tours. e@ @ MONTH Faculty Accommodation Available One bedroom furnished garden apartment with a harbor view, available from September ’96 to October ’97. $1,200 per month.
