WHAT HAS HAP P ENED LYNNMOUR HAS BEEN OFFICIALLY CHRISTENED Five sod busters and about 60 interested supporters stood under the trees in a small clearing at Lynnmour on Thursday morning and officially inaugurated the land for Lynnmour, Phase I. It was a big moment for a lot of us and an important occasion for the College and the North Shore. After over four years of operation we have finally turned the sod on our own facilities on our own (temporarily leased) land . A special thank you to all those who helped make the occasion Mayor R. Andrews, Alf Glenesk, Mary Grif fiths, Sonja Sanguinetti, and Council Chairman, Bae Wallace - all sod diggers. Ian Buck did a marvellous and skilled job in setting up the area for the event carpet and all - and signing the hazardous route to the scene. Bill McPhee was very busy on camera. The architects had a hectic morning setting up their terrific display for the reception. A special mention should go to Rosemary and Diane for the ir spirited participation at the reception. Regrets to the staff (in general) for my error in not giving them "official" recognition as sod turners or at least special mention along with all the expressions re students and faculty. Incidentally, the Staff Association Executive wa s invited to the r eception where two of the members forc efully brought the above e rror to my a ttention. In case College faculty are wondering just who the hell was invited, I should say that the stress was on making a big public show of the event and gaining new converts to the College. Emphasis was on the media reps •• , the Mayor, the District Council, and the School Trustees of the three districts who are the owners of the buildings we are about to build. Beyond that, as I mentioned last week, number and budget limited the official invitation list within the College to Executives of the Student, Staff and Faculty Associations and to Divisional Chairmen and Co-ordinators. \ - 3 - cont'd ..•. The presentation is entitled "Gargoyle Cartoons" by Michael McLure (author of The Beard). Reid Gilbert is behind this visit of the group to the College and his class. Visitors are welcome. CAPILANO COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FORMED Out of the depths of our "graduates" comes an Alumni Association, it .has ·been born and its apparently holding a "First Annual Student ReUnion on Sunday evening, December 3rd. at Canyon Gardens. Cocktails at 7 p.m., dancing at 8 p.m. and dress informal. Unfortunately it is not all free. Admission is $5.00 each at the door. COLLEGE STUDENT RUNS FOR SCHOOL BOARD POSITIONS A General Studies student is running for the North Vancouver School Board. Pearl McKenzie has declared and is working hard. Besides her activities as a part-time student in the program, she is also the mother of a five and eight year old. If her College experience and fellow students had any influence on her in this enterprise then the College is continuing to play a very important role in community affairs by encouraging people to participate in vital community affairs, such as school board. Pearl would appreciate help from students, faculty and staff. ASSISTANT REGISTRAR HAS PROBLEMS Judy Wetter would greatly appreciate it if people could inform her of all room or theatre bookings privately arranged at the Mathers Centre. Apparently our security guard has been reporting "Unauthorized persons" using the premises. cd: November 24/72
