(Ce Capilano Ce College Informer PEELLLELEL Keys for Sale If you have often found yourself wishing that the plastic keys of your computer keyboard were ivory, read on. The College is holding a sale of more than 80 grand pianos, uprights, and digitals September 9 to 11. Staff, faculty, students and alumni will get a special discount on the first day of the sale. This musical bounty is the result of the College’s arrangement with Kawai Canada Music and their local dealer, Howard’s Pianos of North Vancouver. The music department has been using some new Kawai pianos for the past few years. It now has an agreement which provides for a free loan to the College of a large number of pianos. In addition Kawai Music Canada is establishing a $5,000 scholarship for music students which will be matched by the provincial government. This perma- nent endowment fund will provide annual income to support scholarships for music students. The pianos, some of which have been used in the music department, have all been professionally maintained and refurbished, and they will be under warranty. Financing and delivery will be available. The sale at the Sportsplex will be by appointment. Watch for further informa- tion. Library Association. The award is for the library’s “most attractive, innova- tive and highly functional” new building. Rob Turner, Vice-President, Student and Instructional Services, accepted the award on behalf of the College at a special luncheon June 15. In addition to the plaque, the library will have an honorary year’s institutional membership in the association. Frieda Wiebe, Head Librarian, reports that the awards committee was im- pressed with how the new building is placed in the landscape as well as its inclusion of audio visual services, meeting rooms, individual and group study areas. “It is really nice to have the building recognized for what it is. We are thrilled,” says Frieda. As well as noting the way the building has been designed with the future in mind, the award recognizes its central position on campus and its sensitivity to the environment. Frieda notes that several people who heard about the library during the conference have been by for tours. “It’s been really good exposure,” she says. The nomination package, assembled by Frieda, Dianella Knight, Edna Sakata, and Anne Moye also won accolades from the awards committee. “The committee told me it was one of the nicest they’ve received,” says Frieda.
