@nformer A Legend Comes to the Aid of the New Capilano College Performance Theatre hinking of trading in your ’86 Toyota for something a little more sporty? Perhaps you’ve been entertaining the idea of a two-wheeler instead of four. Now you can stop the dreaming and put your thoughts into action with the Capilano College Foundation’s fundraiser, The Legend and the Legacy. A $20 ticket will buy you an opportunity to own a 1996 FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic Harley Davidson Motorcycle valued at $23,865. Fifty dollars will buy you three tickets and $100 will give you six chances to ride away a winner. The British Columbia Safety Council will also provide a $500 motorcycle skills and traffic course. Only 6,200 tickets will be sold, offering incredible odds. Proceeds will go towards equipping the new Capilano College 350-seat performance theatre, which needs seats, spotlights, work platforms, design equipment, stage equipment, hearing assist systems, and more. “This campaign will make a major difference to the music, jazz and theatre students at Capilano College,” says Lynn Jest, director of Resource Development. “The theatre will be a vital addition to the North Shore and performing arts community and will provide our performing arts students with an opportunity to practise in a fully-equipped modern facility.” The Softail reproduces the nostalgic look, but not the ride, of a Hardtail (a motorcycle that has no rear suspension). The full windshield, skirted fenders, floorboards, big seat Picture yourself in the driver’s seat of this 1996 FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic, a motorcycle Styled to recall the past. and saddlebags with conchos, are as authentic as a burger at a drive-in. Some people have been heard to say it’s a true American legend. An early bird draw for $500 will be held on April 3, 1996 at 4 p.m. at Capilano College. The grand prize draw date will be held at the Legend and Legacy Gala, May 3, 1996, at the International Plaza in North Vancouver. The Gala is intended to recreate the nostalgia of the ’50s. Can any of you remember Marlon Brando, James Dean and a Harley? Tickets for this special event will be on sale in March. Your support might put you in the driver’s seat of a true American legend and it will help ensure the legacy of a fully-equipped theatre for students learning, practising and performing their art. And, hey, you won’t even have to sell your four-wheel family friend. Just find a parking space for it on the street. After all, this is one motorcycle you won’t want to leave out in the rain. Tickets are available from the Resource Development office. For more information, contact Lynn Jest at local 2908. 13: @ e= Capilano @em College Vol. XVIII No. 1 January 26/96
