You can have sweat runnil)g down your breastbone at the sound of rock 'n' roll, tears welling in your eyes at the touch of romantic ballads, or saliva rolling over your tongue at the sight of whatever causes that kind of stuff. Long-time local saxophonist Coat Cooke might provoke all of those reactions at the Glass Slipper on Thursday (November 12), because his multidimensional Evolution is one rolling juggernaut of furious funk and jolting jazz. Powder your mid-thorax with lots of talcum powder on Friday (November 13), because it is an unlucky night to be out without pumping some perspiration. Luna 2 puts together former members of several cultish pop-rock bands (Galaxie 500, the Chills, the Feelies) for some really jangly guitar workouts at the Cruel Elephant. while Irish Huclaich at the Saxophonist and band-leader Coat Cooke fine-tunes his creative vision. WISE Club assembles that bentleather-for-hell festive feeling you usually can only get at wakes. For something in the middle, or perhaps from deep left field, at the Town Pump on Friday and Saturday (November 13 and 14) there is Toronto's a cappella Moxy Friivous, which has sold an eye-opening number of indie recordings and is kind of like a Barenaked Ladies with some seriousness and substance. Sunday (November 15) is for those tear-ducts you have been neglecting so long. Eclectic pop romantic Shari Ulrich has been jerking tear-drops in Vancouver for a long time, and she lets loose on her own at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre, while the One Starry Night Seven AIDS benefit at the Arts Club Theatre has more soulful, joyful, hearty, and arty entertainers than you have seen for a while on one stage. But if you're looking for something less romantic and more modern that night, guitarist Budge Schachte leads an acoustidelectric jazz ensemble that promises to steam up the Glass Slipper. While we're on the theme of moisture, what about the mist that rises from the Appalachians when that mountain music starts to play? Alison Krauss and Union Station have some Grammy Award-winning bluegrass at the Commodore on Monday (November 16). Should you find yourself under a table there two days later on Wednesday (November 18), you might find mind-rockers Sugar and their guests Throwing Muses and the Boo Radleys a bit strange to your country/boogie/roots tastes, so you should crawl over to the Yale for a revitalizing hit from Duke Robillard and his band, plus guests Al Rapone & Zydeco Express. Guitarist Robillard, by the way, was Jimmy Vaughan's personal pick to replace him when he left the Fabulous Thunderbirds. If the playing of Sugar left you perfectly comfortable under that table, you want to be at the Town Pump on Friday (November 20) to hear what blues-infused art-rocker PJ Harvey has to say about sex, rhythm, and feedback. There is more where that came from on Saturday (November 21 ), when Reverend Horton Heat brings his demented brand of psycho-billy back to the Elephant, while the rhythmically jaded can have their frontal lobes gently twisted this way and that by the odd and compelling jazz turns of the Tim Beme Trio at the Glass Slipper on Saturday and Sunday (November 21 and 22). Whatever gets you wet. tunes on button acoordlon. Nov. 23, 8:30 pm, WISE Club (1882 Adanac). Tlx $13/10, Info 736-3022.
