Sportsplex Thursday, September 25 to Saturday, October 4 LION IN THE STREET Directed by Kim Sclody Capilano College Performing Arts Theatre Event Promises the Best of Blues and Literature he Capilano Review is collaborating with two other literary magazines, West Coast Line and sub-TERRAIN, to present a celebration of blues and literature, Literary Blues ‘97. The event will take place at the popular Yale Blues Club at 1300 Granville Street on Wednesday May 14 at 7 p.m. Nine readers will enthral the audience with prose and poetry. The Vancouver All Star Women of Blues will set the mood with some of the city’s best R & B sounds. There will be an art auction and many prizes. Stranded Motorists Say Thank You! O n Wednesday, March 19 a sand slide closed the Sea to Sky highway all night, stranding in Squamish ABE’s Rick Brand and Anne Watson from Business Administration. By the time their classes were over, there were no hotel or motel vacancies anywhere in the area. Bev Hill, ABE instructor at the Squamish campus, and her husband, Chris, took the College instructors in for the night. Anne speaks highly of their overnight hosts saying, “They took care of us royally. We greatly appreciate their generosity.” The readers include Evelyn Lau, George Bowering, Renee Rodin, Patrick Friesen, Mark Jarman and Catherine Bennett. Tickets are $12 at the door, but a limited number are available in advance for $10. All proceeds will be divided among the three magazines to help support the publication of new and exciting literature. Last year’s Literary Blues featured eight readers and filled the Yale to capacity.
