Upcoming Events Helping single mothers cope There is now a Single Mother Support Group on campus and the Women's Resource Centre says to pass the word. It's hard going to be a single mother, particularly if you are trying to work | and go to school. The group is not an or- ganization which can solve single mothers' problems such as stereotyping by others and lack of daycare, but it helps to share one's problems and learn from their experience. Join the Group every Wednesday at 12:15 in the Women's Resource Centre, A108, and bring a bag Iunch. The Centre will provide the coffee. Homemaker meeting Tues There is an Information Homemaker program being held Tuesday from 7:30 to 9 pm in the All College Lounge. If you know anyone interested, tell them to go and gather information, see a film and wash it all down with refreshments. Music student plays New Weave Chantale LaPlante is a pianist in the Commercial music program and if you would like to see her perform, go to ''New Weave: A tapestry of women's music and poetry'' on Friday the 13th at 8 pm at Women in Focus, 456 W. Geneticist featured at seminar The Biology department is holding their first fall term seminar this Thursday and they have a truly impressive speaker lined up. Dr. Barry Honda, Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Biological Sciences at SFU is a biochemical geneticist who has worked at the Molecular Biology Laboratory at Cambridge University and at Washington U. in St. Louis, Mo. He has been doing recom- binant DNA research using gene cloning and in vitro transcription/translation to de- termine how genes are expressed in higher organisms, and his topic will be ''Gene Ex- pression in Higher Organisms.'' The seminar will be at 4 pm in the All College Lounge and the college community is welcome to attend.
