Computer Student Scoops College’s Highest Honor orth Shore resident Heather Plume is this year’s winner of the Governor General’s Collegiate Bronze Medal, awarded at Capilano College’s spring graduation ceremony on May 22. The medal is given annually to the student who achieves the highest academic standing in a diploma-level, post-secondary program of two years . duration or more. It is the most prestigious honor given at Capilano College for academic achievement. A graduate of the Accelerated Computer Systems Management program, Heather achieved the highest academic standing possible, graduating with a perfect grade point average of 4.33. In fact, she attained a grade of A+ in every course of the program. “Heather demonstrates initiative, innovation, courtesy and patience in all that she does,” says Anne Watson, Business Administration instructor at Capilano College. “She is able to excel, whether working alone or in a team environment. Any organization would be fortunate to have her contribute to its continuing success, and we at Capilano College are proud to have her as one of our own.” Since graduating from Eric Hamber Secondary School, Heather has worked extensively in the area of financial analysis, fund accounting, inventory management and database administration. In 1991, she received her professional designation with the Certified Management Accountants Society of BC. She recently graduated from the Accelerated Computer Systems Management program at Capilano College. This is an award-wining, nationally- recognized computing program, requiring long hours of course work each week. “It takes a positive, highly-motivated individual to excel in this program,” Anne says, “and Heather has been such a student.” Textile Arts Instructor Nominated for Award lhe Crafts Association of BC has nominated textile artist and College instructor Lesley Richmond for a Chalmers Award, Administered by the Ontario Arts Council, this award is for excellence in craft with a focus on community. Last year, the CABC successfully nominated textile artist and Capilano College instructor Ruth Scheuing for the award. Lesley is one of the CABC’s previous nominees for the Bronfman Award, which celebrates the accomplishments of a craftsperson whose work is nationally revered and praised. Congratulations and good luck, Lesley! Not for Your Eyes Only na poll conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, executives were questioned about employees e-mail. Fully 75 per cent said that it was within the company’s right to examine employee e-mail written on company property and on company time.
