In addition, Capilano College once again topped the British Columbia Colleges’ Athletic Association’s list with the most awards in the B.C. conference. In early March, Capilano College was host to the 2007 Canadian Colleges’ Athletics Association’s Women’s National Volleyball Championship. In a tournament filled with electrifying matches, the Blues landed a spot in the finals and claimed a silver medal after falling to Grant MacEwan College, the first western college to win a gold medal in 29 years. More than 300 alumni and friends of the College rekindled acquaintances with former classmates and faculty members on March 14 at a musical theatre event coordinated by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The event was the very first College-wide alumni function and was also part of a broader alumni relations strategy to encourage graduates to reconnect with the institution. Alumni were invited to a reception prior to a dress rehearsal of The Wiz, performed by Capilano College Jennifer Dickson has been named the BCCAA Athlete of the Year Across All Sports. Guests streamed out of the theatre post performance with words of praise for the cast and crew. It was an amazing evening of firsts and the beginning of a vibrant alumni relations program for the College. Co- authored with Mary Ann Gillies, an English instructor at Simon Fraser University, this engaging work provides a comprehensive and critical assessment of British literature from the beginning of the 20°" century up to the Second World War. Another Capilano College English instructor, Ryan Knighton, has had his most recent publication, Cockeyed (Penguin Group, Canada) shortlisted for the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal Tor Humour.
