Lillian McDonell (Biology), one of the founding members
of the College, is retiring at the end of December. The Sciences
Division honored her at a special reception Dec. 18. Best wishes
for a happy retirement, Lillian!

In an end-of-the-year assessment of public affairs column
writers from the Vancouver Sun, the Province and the Globe and
Mail, Crawford Kilian (Communications/AIT) was given a
rating of A-. Crawford’s weekly column in the Province was
described as, “well-wrought, interesting and provocative.”

Jim Bizzocchi (Media Resources/Distance Education) is
among the 10 committee members of the newly formed Standing
Committee on Educational Technology (SCOET). The
Committee is responsible to the Council of Principals and has a
mandate to develop policy and strategic direction
recommendations in the area of educational technology.

Sheila Rosen (Financial Aid) was appointed to the Standing
Committee on Student Financial Assistance for a one-year term
by Minister of Advanced Education, Training and Technology
Bruce Strachan.

Kerry Murtagh (on leave from Advising) reports that she
saw Bawn Campbell (Business Management/AIT) in a play on
Bowen Island. Bawn made an scantily-clad acting debut in
Theatre on the Isle’s The Tempest.  ~

She’s moved to the Humanities from Switchboard/
Reception, but Jessie McCready would like everyone to know
that she is still available for calligraphy work. Her new
extension is 2957.

Annette Lorek (Reference Services) was a featured
presenter at the Canada Online IV — Towards 2000: Challenges
and Opportunities conference, Nov. 26-28, in Toronto. At her
presentation, “Graphic, Multimedia and Online,” Annette shared
her experience in designing and teaching a course in online
searching to students.

CFUW Assists Female Students

For more than 20 years, the Canadian Federation of
University Women - West Vancouver has donated funds to
assist mature female students in academic studies. The $500
annual bursary became known as the Mary Neil Memorial
Bursary in recognition of their former president.

This month, the club established an endowment to be
known as the Canadian Federation of University Women - West
Vancouver. Their donation of $2,500 will be matched by the
provincial government to create a $5,000 endowment, with the
earned interest providing assistance to women students at
Capilano College.
