Lynne’s Last Message OUR 1986 AT TLe WAY CAMPAIGN DONATIONS $5,718.74 Now the Campaign is over and doiie and the draw has been made and our "WINNERS" have won There's a wonderful "word" so simple and right which popped into mind just the other night It's meant not for ONE, but for ALL of us here as we complete this "United Way year" Lynne Hamilton, Chairperson 1986 United Way Campaign MAILBOX Dear Editor: I would like to vigorously protest a comment made in the last issue of the Informer in a letter from "Had It Up To Ear". "Ear" was complaining about the insipid muzak on the college's telephone lines, and referred to it as "the musical equivalent of spam." This is an unwarranted insult to a fine food, and a disservice to canned meats of all kinds. We from the Spam Producers, Advertisers and Manufacturers association (S.P.A.M.) have been promoting the "Make It Spam Tonight" campaign for some months now in an effort to educate the public about the nutritional value of spam as well as its wonderful taste and aesthetic appeal. It is people like "Ear" (and Monty Python) who have done so much to ruin the public image of this wholesome food until it has become synonymous with a thing as debased as elevator music. If "Ear" wants to complain about your tacky phone music, fine—but leave Spam out of it! Yours in outrage, Nehemiah Spreadfoods, President, S.P.A.M. P.S. S.P.A.M. publishes recipe books which are distributed free to the public and we would appreciate your giving them some publicity. Tell the college employees that they only need to send a self addressed stamped envelope to receive the booklet "Gee Mom, Can We Have Spam for Dinner Again?" which includes such tried and true _ luncheon recipes as spam soup, brunch favourites like eggs benedict spam, and fancy dinner ideas such as spam in aspic. Tired of turkey? In "Spam Holiday Favourites" we have recipes for spam fondue, spam flambé, spam turkey stuffing, spam ritz au gratin (with cheeze whiz on ritz crackers) and festive spam bread. For cooks who like more exotic recipes, "Around the World with Spam" contains a wide variety of spam pasta recipes and tempting ethnic favourites such as sweet and sour Spam, spam stirfry, spam souvlaki, spam quiche, curried spam, and tempura spam.
