The Informer Page 6 October 26, 1988 Women's Centre opens with a flourish The Rita Johnson Memorial Scholarship was established in honour of this remarkable woman who worked at the Women’s Centre from 1981 to 1983. Rita was working toward a Master’s Degree in Counselling at UBC, having begun her post-secondary studies in her middle years, after raising four children. The scholarship was established to assist mature women students (25 and over) enrolled at Cap full or part-time with a B or better grade average. Awards are normally given to cover tuition costs. Baker The Women’s Centre Open House held mid-September attracted over 50 guests, including faculty, staff and students. Classical guitarist Jane Findlater (a student enrolled in the music program) played beautifully, and catering was generously paid for by Jon Jessiman. — Lisa Wilson Applicants must demonstrate an interest in and awareness of women’s issues, and, although preference is given to students in Academic Studies, this award is available for women in different programs.
