ARC hosts conference "WHAT WE DO" is the theme for the Learning Specialists Association of B.C. (L.S.A.B.C.) Spring 86 Conference hosted by the Achievement Resource Centre on May 8, 9 and 10. In addition to presentations by Capilano faculty, Don Wright from U.Vic will share his research findings on how to "Overcome Procrastination", its causes and cures. Also of interest will be a workshop on "Teaching the Native Indian Student" and a recent report on the "Development of Study Groups." Any faculty who are interested in attending this conference as a P.D. activity, or simply for interest, should call Lynne Hamilton at local 353/356 for a complete agenda and registration form. Conference costs are $30 for L.S.A.B.C. members or $45 for non-members. Can you host a student? Once again the Extension department is looking for host families to billet the French speaking students who will be arriving at the end of May to take our annual six week English language immersion program. The students are college age, and Extension would like hosts who live near the college or on a bus route. Host families will be expected to provide most meals and will receive a $400 stipend plus free enrollment for an adult family member in an Extension language program in the fall. For details call Adele Herbert at local 328. Media students reunite Over 100 students turned up on Thursday April 10 for the Reunion of the Media Resources department—a number that Anne Morley calls "a goodly throng" and Jim Bizzocchi describes as about 40% of the program's total graduates. The students, some going back to the first year of the program some fifteen years ago, came mainly to talk and reminisce, but they also had a chance to see some of the video work produced by recent students--work which many graduates felt showed a real increase in skills and sophistication over the years. The former students are now employed in a wide variety of media-related jobs in the public and private sector, but once back here they were "loath to leave"— the party reportedly would have gone on all night if they hadn't been firmly ushered out the door around 10.
