Immersion students arrive In spite of difficulties finding flights into Vancouver that weren't completely full of Expo visitors, 48 students have made it to Capilano College for the English language immersion program for French-speaking students. The students, 47 from Quebec and 1 from New Brunswick, are here until July 5 working on their English skills under the tutelege of Joan Acosta, Ramon Kubicek and Crystal Hurdle. There are also four monitors: Liam Kearns, Kara Middleton, Alicia Stewart and Jeff Schermbrucker. The French students this year are mostly Business and Engineering students, says coordinator Marlene Fry. They are playing tourist around town and -will be taking a weekend trip to Victoria and Long Beach. Expo has caused other problems—billets have been very difficult to find, both for the French students and for the Japanese students who will be coming to Cap at the end of July. Graduation cont. food on hand, and then dissipated much earlier than last year, allowing our own people to finish up the clean-up. A highlight of the event was the announcement by MLA Angus Ree of the granting of $400,000 in lottery money towards Cap's gymnasium project. Meanwhile, rumours of former Principal Paul Gallagher's influence over the gods of weather refuse to be quashed. Although Board Chairman Hilda Rizun made public proclamations to the effect that this year's clement ceremonies prove that Capilano can hold rainless graduations without the intervention of Gallagher, she was later overheard to admit that Gallagher had made a phone call on our behalf just hours before the event. Which leaves the entire college community seething with speculation after our third successful outdoor ceremony. Have we just been lucky? Or has Gallagher been directing the rain clouds to part? OR is there an unknown person out there performing druidic rites each May to appease the elements and if so who could it be? Doug Jardine? Hilda Rizun? Judy Hafey? The students in Karen Ewing's Weather and Climate classes? And will we ever know for sure?
