Bicycles menace pedestrians ’ Ken Hughes has issued a memo on the subject of bicycle and motorcycle parking, noting that they should not be parked in any footpaths, stairways or fire exits/ lanes subject to pedestrian traffic. Tying bicycles to handrails constitutes a hazard to pedestrians. He goes on to say that "in future, motorcycles and bicycles improperly parked or secured will be towed away or removed at the'owner's risk and expense." Your Informer editor, as a cyclist, would Tike to add a few comments to that. First, this problem is not unique to Cap—in part because of the increasing use of bicycles bike parking ahs been causing problems at all three BC universities and most of the colleges. The problem from the point of view of cyclists--is that the College does not provide enough parking for bikes. The so-called bike racks in front of the A building are useless as there is nothing to secure the bicycle to, and with the heavy incidence of bicycle theft it is necessary to have a metal railing or other fixed object to attach them to (at UBC bike thieves have actually cut down trees in order to take bicycles that were chained to them). Students do not have the option, as I do, of parking their bikes in an office. Capilano needs more, better, and better advertised bicycle parking. Get your ID photo taken Faculty and staff cards are once again available at the main desk in A building— this time without your age printed on them. (This after it was pointed out by a staff member that it was a. unnecessary for other than students and b. nobody's business.) If you would like to have an ID photo taken to go with the card, the Student Union is setting up their photo equipment in room Al21 on Monday the 25th — and Tuesday the 26th between llam and 5pm. Special event to be held in A117 Music Therapy instructor Nancy McMaster will be having a combination display and presentation in the All College Lounge from Tuesday Nov. 26 at noon until 5 pmon Thursday the 28th. Described as "a unique blend of passion, delight, and peace embracing the pot-pourri of being human," this presentation will include classical piano concertos playing on tape, sketches, and writings, including poems, journals, and travelogues. Everyone is invited to come by (bring your lunch if you like) and if any of the writings or tapes take your fancy, copies can be ordered. Actor loses car The towtrucks claimed a rather distinctive victim last week when they snatched the car out from under Robert Clothier. The local actor who is most widely known for playing the character Relic on the TV series The Beachcombers, had stopped by to pick up a sculpture from the Art Dept. but didn't make it back to his car quite fast enough. Clothier has also been to Cap a number of times in the past to help out with the Extension class "Acting for Film and TV" but this was his first visit to the Payless storage yard. Indian Arts & Crafts show The students in the CASP program are holding an Indian Arts and Crafts show on Thursday, December 5 in the All College Lounge. Everyone is welcome to come by and look or brouse for Christmas gifts from 11 am to 7 pm. For more details call Kim, Paula or Cindy at local 288/289. .
