THE‘NFORMER PAGE 5 OCTOBER 18, 1989 FACULTY DEVELOPMENT By ReEID Faculty Exchange A number of administrative, staff and faculty colleagues who are interested in an exchange next year attended an introductory meeting on the new Community College Exchange Program (CCEP) on October 12 at noon. At the meeting, I outlined the operation of the CCEP brokerage, a network which the BC colleges have joined and outlined the application process. There are two points at which you can indicate interest: a very preliminary interest list is now being drawn up for those who may be interested in an exchange starting September 1991 and formal applications are now being taken for those who wish to exchange September 1990. Anyone who is interested in an exchange in September 1990 or may be interested in an exchange in 1991 should contact Reid at local 2414. The preliminary interest listing does not commit you to an actual exchange, but does publish your possible interest to a wide audience of American and Canadian colleges. The formal application does commit you to an exchange if one can be arranged. These formal applications are due by November 5, 1989. Exchange is an excellent way to renew yourself, to provide fresh insights and some “fresh air.” If you are interested in the possibility of exchange, please give it some thought now. Fall Brochure The fall Faculty Development brochure is now published and distributed. A copy was sent to each faculty member, to each administrator, and to each office area for the interest of support staff members. If you didn’t receive a copy, please speak to your Divisional Assistant (or the person who distributes mail in your area.) Some Tips for Applying for Grants and Conferences The deadline for applications is October 31. To make the adjudication process easier, please supply all the information requested in the brochure. If you have already sent in an application but without all necessary information, please send along an addendum. 1. Grants: 1. Remember that grants are not for the production of classroom or college programme materials, although your research might generate direct classroom materials at some future date. The Grant programme is meant to facilitate studies of various types which enhance the professional development of the faculty member, not to produce materials for students or guides for the college. 2. Research assistants are paid approximately $10./hr. Include reasonable estimates of such costs in your budget proposal.
