the Volume V No. 10 March 14, 1983 informer LEAR! Cap Theatre is proud to announce that they are presenting ''Lear''--a contemporary staging of Shakespeare's ''King Lear'’. They describe it this way: ''Using the power and purpose of the original text, we draw from both present and future for the costumes and set design. The violence and cruelty portrayed in ''Lear'' are timeless, as are the multiple conflicts the characters are thrown into.'' Some of the non-traditional elements in the production are an on stage chorus, mask, and the character of Lear being portrayed Bunraku style (where two actors represent Lear, one as the body and one as the voice and spirit). ''Lear'' will be at Presentation House March 17-19 and 22-26 and the tickets cost $5 at the door, or $4 in advance. There is also a group rate available. All performances begin at 8:00 pm except for the March 22 show which starts at 7:30. For reservations call Presentation House at 986-1351. Newlove at Cap John Newlove, one of Canada's best known poets, who is currently teaching at David Thompson University, will be the next person reading at the College. His reading will take place Thursday March 31 at 8:00 in the Cafetheatre. Admission is free.
