t' .- i::OPY '-' V Minutes of a Meetin of the North Shore Regional College Co-ordinating Committee hPld on Friday, Aust 5, 1966, at 2:00 p.m. in the offices of the West Vancouver School Board. Present: West Vancouver Sechelt Bowe Sound North Vancouver - - Mr. w. J. Wallace Mr. Malcolm Mr. Wilson Mr. MacDonald Mr. Ross Mr. Jones Mr. Brooks The minutes of the meeting of February 15th were read and adopted. Correspondence with the Minister of Education was read. Mr. Peter Jones reported upon an informal discussion with Dr. Perry of the Department of Ed ucation, who indicated (1) that of the five appli cations for regional colleges presently before the Academic 8oard for evaluation, while not all met the necessary criteria, that of the North Shore did do so; (2) that the Cabinet did not feel that it was politi cally expedient to move on one application at this time. By implication it wag suggested that the Cabinet might respond in our case to some form of public pressure. A eneral discussion of the Committee's future policy followed. While the Committee did not proceed by formal motion, it 't-rag agreed that the more effective way to exert influence was by continuous reports of accomplished progress rather than by arousing public outcry through a publicity cam paign. The Committee, therefore, should proceed immediately to do all pre liminary planning within its power. It was further agreed: 1. That the Committee ask the School Boards of North and West Vancouver to instruct their administrative staffs to enlist the aid of their municipal planning departments in identifying areas of available land 20A to ?OA in size and suitable for building. This report is to be submitted to the Committee by October 1st. The Committee will then apply college criteria to the designated areas to arrive at an order of desirability. 2. That copies of inter-Board agreements should be supplied to members so that details of our own proposed agreement can be worked out at subsequent meetings. ,. That the proposed curriculum of the collPge should be planned in outline, with a representativP number of courses planned in detail. 4. That a suitable person should be employed to assist in planning the curriculum, to be paid from regional college research funds. Names for the consideration of the Committee would be supplied through suggestions of the administrative staffs and through public advertisement. t "'-"· - 2 - 5. That budget provisions for regional college research should be con solidated into one fund administered by the Co-ordinating Committee. 6. That members should advise their Boa"'Cis of the Committee's proposals and seek their explicit approval and co-operation. 7. That all Boards should receive periodic reports of the Committee's progress. The next eeting ws called for Thursday, August 18th at 12:00 noon in the West Vancouver School Board Offices.
