Taking a curtain call below are, from left, John Sayre, Bill Schermbrucker, Perfect ingredients lot of College employees and students woke up much earlier than usual on Friday, October 23. Some wondered if they’d be going to work, others wanted to know if mid-term exams would be cancelled. With the successful 4:30 a.m. settlement of negotiations between the faculty union and the College, everything was going ahead as scheduled. Plus, Mother Nature threw in a beautiful sunny day for good measure. It all added up to a perfect mix for a celebration and the College just happened to have one scheduled. Capilano College’s 30th anniversary and employee recognition event was held as planned that day and judging by the reviews, most people really enjoyed themselves. Some of the comments included: “Reid always stands out for me . . . what a pleasure to see Ken Hughes again . . . the video on changing a light bulb was as funny as any skit from Monty Python .. . all highly entertaining and humorous .. . I loved the pictures and music to start and the addition of the faculty skit was hilarious . . . wonderfully ironic and quite a tonic, given what had seemed so inevitable only hours before . . . it was very inspiring and a warm recognition of longtime employees . . . Bill Schermbrucker’s speech was a highlight for me . . . it was the most uplifting, positive, enjoyable and well-attended event I can remember at the College . . . I loved Bill Gibson’s sense of humour . . . it brought back the early feeling of the community college once again as we all celebrated together.” As one of the chefs of the event, I would like to pass on a few reviews myself. A five star rating goes to Edna Sakata in Media Production Services and David DeMuynck in College Relations for all their hard work. They compiled the slide show with the help of June Hunter in MPS and the Ed Tech Centre’s Ken Barbour. Edna helped tape and edit the administrators’ skit and David and Edna also worked behind the scenes Looking Compute Medi Rai Dan Vict Stec fron Educatio Cor left, Colleg with alt Carol Colle wa: College Educ: was als Goverr Medal. the fh @nformer
