fsern Informer Faculty Development by Diane Blaney The Faculty Development Com- Instructional Skills International Conference on Critical mittee is up and running again this year with a new Chair - me, Diane Blaney of Office Administration. Following in the footsteps of Reid Gilbert and Ruth d’Hollander will be no small feat but I will do my best. We have a committee where several members are continuing from last year and I am certain that they will not hesitate to provide me with direction whenever they see a need. Ruth and I attempted to meet prior to holiday time but did not succeed in getting together for an exchange of the reins until mid- August. As a result, I am feeling utterly overwhelmed with new information and underwhelmed at |} the time with new items to commu- nicate to faculty. I am sure that this situation will not last for long. The Committee will hold its first meeting as soon as we identify a common available time slot. At this time we will determine our direc- tion and focus for 1992-1993. Sec- tion release time throughout the College has been reduced and the Faculty Development Committee is no exception. With one release per year (down from one release section per term) there will, understand- ably, be things that just will not be accomplished. One of our first tasks will be to determine our priorities for the year. Your comments and suggestions are invited. Fall Grant Applications Funds will again be available for grants and a deadline for Fall applications will be announced in the next edition of the Informer. Workshop ISW is an intensive 24-hour workshop for beginning or experi- enced instructors. The workshop is led BY college instructors FOR college instructors. Beginning instructors are exposed to presenta- tion skills, curriculum design, lesson planning, evaluation techniques and classroom management. Experi- enced instructors have an opportu- nity to focus on new ideas and experiment with new techniques in a supportive environment. Our last workshop was held in May. The next workshop is planned for two Friday afternoon/ evening all day Saturday sessions over two weekends on October 16- 17 and October 23-24.
