TEACHERS CLOBBER TEACHERS
C a p i l a n o C o l l e g e and North Van T e a c h e r s took to the i c e l a s t Tuesday
f o r the f i r s t annual N.H.L. ( N o r t h s h o r e Hockey L a u g h e r ) i n an e f f o r t
to r a i s e money f o r the R i c k Hansen Fund. About one-hundred
s u p p o r t e r s , mostly s t u d e n t s and f a m i l y members of the p l a y e r s , c h e e r e d
t h e t e a c h e r s on as they e n t e r t a i n e d w i t h p i c t u r e p e r f e c t p a s s i n g and
n i f t y s t i c k - h a n d l i n g . S p e c t a c u l a r g o a l - t e n d i n g by Windsor's Doug
I r w i n and Cap's P i e r r e Coupey kept the game c l o s e . The h i g h l i g h t s of
t h i s n o n - c o n t a c t o l d - t i m e r game were s e v e r a l s o l i d b o d y c h e c k s . Wayne
Matthews of C a r s o n Graham and Cap's Reimar H a u s c h i l d t met a t c e n t r e
i c e l e v e l l i n g both of the green s h i r t e d p l a y e r s . Not to be o u t d o n e ,
two p l a y e r s on the gold team r e p e a t e d t h i s p l a y to the d e l i g h t of t h e
roaring.fans.
The w i n n i n g g o a l f o r the t e a c h e r s was s c o r e d by Ted '111' B e n t l e y a s
he s t i c k - h a n d l e d h i s way through both h i s own and the o p p o s i t i o n s
d e f e n s e p u t t i n g a hard low d r i v e behind a s t a r t l e d g o a l i e . The R i c k
Hansen Fund was a winner along w i t h a l l the t e a c h e r s as d o n a t i o n s by
the f a n s and the p l a y e r s exceeded $230.00. With a matching government
g r a n t the Hansen Fund w i l l r e c e i v e a l m o s t $500. Thanks go t o FOSTER'S
