Inspired by the hannJlodic funk of
Ornette Coleman, Ronald Shannon Jackson
and Jarne.s "Blo::>1" Ulirer, Lunar Adve;:itures
has forged an eclectic, original, humJro~s
fusion of styles that has captivated
Canadian audiences. 'Ihe quartet was
featured at the du Mmrier Jazz Festival
in 1987 and was no.ninated in the Best
J.1z,2"; Perform,ms category by the Canadian
Asso~iation of Recording Artists.
Drurrmer Gregg Simpson has played in
Seattle during his associations with
Paul Plimley and the New Orchestra
Workshop. Simpson, Reed and another
Vanco'..lver saxophonist work together in
the Vanco~ver Art Trio, which recently
returned from a gig at the Victoriaville
Festival in Quebec. Clyde Reed, originally
fro~ Vanco~ver, Washington, studied in
the 1930's with Jerry Gray at the Cornish
College and with Ron Simon of the Seattle
Symphony . Ron S'.:lm-vorth has worked with
Vancouver ro~k bands N20phyte and Jazzoids.

EARSHOT JAZZ is a non-profit volunteer service organization
formed in 1986 to provide a mirror and focus for the Seattle
area jazz connunity through publishing a roonthly magazine,
presenting creative rrusic, identifying and filling career
needs for jazz musicians, increasing listenership and awareness of jazz, augmenting and canplementing existing services
and programs and networking with the national jazz comrrnnity.
NEW JAZZ, NEW CITY is produced by EARSHOT JAZZ, the board of
trustees of which includes Paul de Barros, Gary Bannister,
A1len Youngblood, Bruce Kochis, Sandra Burlingame, Judy de
Barros, Jeff Ferguson, Mark Solar.on and I.Dla Pedrini.
THE NEW CITY THEATER aims to encourage and cultivate the
work of Seattle artists ~d to maintain eclectic programning
thFJt bridges various disciplines of live perforrrancP .
This work seeds and often fuses with New City em,:1:1ble
productions. Programrriine; categories are: New City ongoing
ensemble, two-three annual local-artist-in-residencies, the
annual Directors' Festival (open showcase/Seattle artists),
annual guest artist program frorr, outside the region to introduce new and innovative work.
