MAY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT DAYS CONSIDERED A SUCCESS "A luxurious and thought-provoking opportunity to be intellectually stimulated and engaged!" "Valuable ideas." "Helped me to think about teaching more effectively!" "I liked the practical examples." These were just a few of the hundreds of written comments of instructors turned in on seminar evaluations last May as more than sixty instructors gathered over five days to discuss teaching and learning. Topics covered approaches to helping ESL students; ways to enhance student learning and critical thinking through the use of short writing assignments; dealing with disruptive students; and how instructors make up their minds about which theories to accept in their fields, especially midst active controversy. Energy was high in each of the sessions in spite of feelings of burnout. Beaver Food’s scrumptuous lunches also helped keep spirits up. Besides appreciating the information provided by seminar leaders, participants made special reference to how much they enjoyed the opportunity to meet with colleagues from different disciplines to grapple with important teaching issues. FACULTY, STAFF, AND ADMINISTRATORS EXCHANGE New listings have just arrived about exchange possibilities in Canada and the United States. Descriptions of universities and colleges participating in exchanges are available as well as a list of personnel who have indicated an interest in exchanging. Exchange offers you an opportunity to teach new courses, work in new settings, establish a new network. Your exchange could last up to one year or be as short as several weeks! Regular employees who have been employed at the College for a period of at least four years are eligible to participate in an exchange with another institution. The College continues to pay outgoing participants their regular salary and fringe benefits subject to normal deductions. LIBRARIANS ARE AS ELIGIBLE AS LEARNING ASSISTANTS, ADMINISTRATORS AS EXCHANGEABLE AS ANTHROPOLOGISTS! Deadline for 1992-93 applications is November 1, 1991 although those for short-term exchanges may be submitted at any time. For further information or to obtain an application form, contact Ruth D’Hollander at 2919, E-Mail 460.
