HOUSING Students Still Searching When the Student Society's Housing Office said they had a lot of calls from "out of town'! they weren't kidding, and they didn't mean Chilliwack. The Housing Office has had calls from Saskatchewan and Quebec among other places, and spent the summer placing hundreds of students, particularly the out-of-towns. HOWEVER there are still a lot of students looking for accommoda- tion and the Housing Board is really busy. Any help that you can give would be more than appreciated. BEAR BROWSES THROUGH CAMPUS And an interesting news item from the Music department—that weird and wonderful collection of people residing (until the completion of the new building) in the NA building. According to our source, Kerry Burke, co-ordinator of the Music Therapy Program, thought the strain of a new fob was getting to him today. (Kerry is co-or- dinator while Nancy McMaster is on a years leave of absence.) While on the phone at his desk, which faces out the back of NA, he was alarmed to see a large black bear stroll out of the bush and amble along towards the North parking lot. A call to Ken Hughes to ask him to remove a black bear (instead of pianos) brought out the troops but they didn't find the bear. Music department. estimates of the size of the bear range from 150 to 300 pounds, but reports that the bear was last seen driv- ing off in a black van with air-brushed pastoral scenes on the sides are untrue. ‘up this Free film series begins The film series ''The History Book!', an animated cartoon depicting the rise of trade and barter, capitalism and imperial- ism, will be starting Wednesday Sept. 23 and running every Wednesday until the end of the term. There will be two showings one at noon and one at Ipm--and it is free for everyone interested in the All College Lounge. CALLING ALL STUDENTS The Student Society's General Meeting will be held at noon on Tuesday September 22 in the South Cafeteria and they are asking all students to attend. On the agenda js an introduction to the Student Society, setting goals and directions for the coming year, and an outline of what has happened to the college over the last while (cut- backs mainly) and what can be forseen in the future. from beekeeping to nutrition The Biology department has a great line-up of Credit Free short courses for this Fal] and if you are interested, we suggest that you get one of their mew green brochures. Birds", a 3 session plus 1 field trip course given by noted local bird painter Robert Buffer, and "'A New Look at Landscape Design", a 2 4% session course by the Curator of z the Van Dusen Botanical Gardens on 2£ creating landscapes in a natural style while keeping them function- al and easy to maintain. Other up- coming courses include Beekeeping for Beginners, Terraria — A New Look, and Pruning Spring and Summer Flowering Shrubs, as well as Hanging Baskets and Window Boxes, Nutrition and Food Additives, and The Wild and Savoury Mushrooms of the North Shore (no, no hallucin- ogens).
