Employees benefit from training Submitted by Mike Arbogast Congratulations to the 10 graduates of the College’s most recent Supervisory Skills course, which was completed in April. Other graduates of the class were Anja Wilke, Deborah Cochran, Gail Hirsch, Kelly Aslanowicz, Lesley Cox and Shoshana Somerville. Course presenters included consultant, Elizabeth Robinson, and Human Resources personnel, Cindy Rogers, Leslie Walsh, Geoff Hicks and Mike Arbogast. Individual comments at the end of the course provided a commendable measurement of its success. “T became much more aware of my own working style, and the style of my coworkers, which allowed me to become more competent on the job” said one of the participants. “I also acquired the necessary tools needed to positively influence others and to work more effectively as a team member.” Approximately 52 employees in four separate groups have completed the Supervisory Skills course that was first offered at the College in January 2002. Past participants have continued to upgrade their expertise through the Advanced Supervisory Skills program with sessions led by Elizabeth, vice-president/dean of Business, Catherine Vertesi, and others. Congratulations to all the graduates! award for Outstanding Customer Relations at Capilano College. Barb, who started at the College in 1998, was acknowledged because of her extraordinary service to students, potential students and the members of her immediate Continuing Education office team. Acknowledged for Outstanding College Service at the employee recognition event was Beverley Hughes, analyst in the Registrar's Office. Bev, who has worked at the oo Years Cameron Williams, Joan Hollman, Lars Kaario College since 1985, was unable to attend the luncheon. In her absence, Greg said, “Bev has been at Capilano College for 21 years and has embraced all the changes with a cheerful and supportive attitude. She is an inspiration — her work ethic and willingness to help others is outstanding.” Congratulations to both and to all the employees who were recognized for longtime service to the College!
