Harwood Andrew has been dancing for over 25 years and has developed a reputation as an outstanding choreographer, dancer, improviser and teacher. Much of Harwood's dance career has focused on Contact Improvisation. Between 1976 and 1986,he studied and taught with many key figures in the improvisation world, including Steve Paxton and Nancy Stark Smith. In the nineties, he developed a number of important artistic associations with improvisation festivals worldwide: the Bates Dance Festival, the International Tanzwochen Vienna and the Improvisation Festival/New York. In addition to performing and teaching, Harwood has also worked as a dancer for other choreographers, including Jo Lechay (1983-85),Marie Chouinard (1990-94)andJeanPierre Perreault (1994). Harwood's choreographic endeavours have always been influenced by improvisational strategies, quirky movement and chance procedures. His current motivations center around intuition, perceptions, transformation and various states of being. In association with Benoit Lachambre's company par b.l.eux, he is creating a large scale improvisational happening called Not to Know which is being coproduced by the F .I.N.D. (October 2001). In 2000 he received the Canada Council's Jacqueline Lemieux Award and founded his own company, Ah Ha Productions.
